71. Slavic Folk Museum: Interview with Irina Souchtchenko

In this episode, Jasmine talks to Irina Souchtchenko the founder of the Slavic Folk Museum, which houses the largest private collection of Slavic costume, textiles and art in the United States. Slavic peoples include East Slavs (chiefly Belarusians, Russians, Rusyns, and Ukrainians), West Slavs (chiefly Czechs, Kashubs, Moravians, Poles, Silesians, Slovaks and Sorbs), and South Slavs (chiefly Bosniaks, Bulgarians, Croats, Macedonians, Montenegrins, Serbs and Slovenes). In the interview they talk about the layered and meaning within Slavic textiles, winter solstice traditions, and the importance of preserving traditional textile and costumes.
